I meet with some colleagues and friends the other morning for a book talk. I decided someday I'm going to write a book entitled My Kids Didn't Read Until the End of First Grade or Later and I'm Proud of It. I know I have my better moments as a parent than others but one of the things I feel really good about it is letting my kids be kids and learn at their own pace. All of them are real successful in life and school. AMEN.
I admired many of my professors at Arizona State University and really respected the philosophy of letting children be children and give them opportunities to learn instead of forcing it upon them. Dr. Karen Smith, Dr. Hudelson, the late Dr. V, Dr. Santos and many others, still inspire me to try to do what is best for children.
I thank all my colleagues and teachers now and in the past for your continued support in dedicating my work time and much personal time to children.
